| Philippinas 4:8 Quotation #1 |
|
| |
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 Quotation — “Each day stretches before us, awaiting our involvement. Whether we approach our activities with enthusiasm or dread depends on the attitude we’ve cultivated.” –Karen Casey
Commentary — Today is waiting for you and me to see how we will choose to live. And today is full of opportunities to enjoy life and to be helpful to others. Will we grab these opportunities or let them slip by?
According to Karen Casey's quotation, that depends on what kind of farmer we have been with the field of our mind and emotions. If we have planted only a little positive, inspiring, uplifting seed; we can only expect a tiny positive harvest today. If we have allowed weeds of anger, frustration, negativity, disappointment, vulgarity, and violence to grow unhindered — then we can expect much misery today. It is a matter of inner cultivation.
And the reverse is also true — much positive seed and few negative weeds produce happiness and joy. How have you been farming and cultivating your mind and emotions? The way you feel and act today will answer that question for all the world to see!

Steve, It is interesting to divide Scripture into the categories of "negative" and "positive." But I don't think that the Bible does that. Sure, it's true that some things are negative and some are positive. But it is also true that there are negative truths and positive falsehoods. For instance, when God calls me on the carpet for my sin, it is a bummer of an experience. I'm guilty and I know it. I'm ashamed and I feel bad. But it is a good that that I feel guilty, ashamed and bad. This is a negative experience personally, but a good thing. In a similar way I may lie to someone about something in order to not feel a bad feeling, to hide my guilt. So, my lie glosses over the situation and I don't feel bad about the thing that I lied about. It worked, I hid my guilt. So, I feel good. But because lying is a sin, I should not feel good about it. So, this is a positive experience personally, but a bad thing. Again, the point is that Scripture divides the categories into truth and falsehood rather than positive and negative. |

| Great point, Phil. Your clarification is appreciated! |
|
|
| Good points, Phil. I am not writing about Scriptures being positive or neagative, but rather about what the Word says for us to do -- to think on "these things." |

Thank you all. I really appreciate these things, as I am a baby Christian and need to think logically and rightly divide the Word of Truth. I am so glad that I am walking in the Spirit in newness of life rather than in the oldness of the letter. The prompting of the Holy Spirit makes it easy for me to follow His voice, and I have been so blessed to have the right attitude of deep gratitude, and I show this by meditating on those things that are pure and holy and bring Him glory, and by operating in the gifts that He has given me. I love to bless others with prayer and compliments, encouragement and listening to peoples problems because I can relate to them, I have been through much suffering - mostly self imposed. Let us be content with having food and clothing. This is a verse that can help us to practise meditating on those things that are not the "cares of this world". ABOVE ALL THINGS HAVE FERVENT LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER, that is what I think on every day, and try to live by, and I define love in Cor 13, so it is a challenge to do this, but like I said, His Spirit makes it happen, and it is very exciting. |

| I am blessed to have the love for Jesus Christ in my life .For all good I do comes from Jesus Christ and not me because Jesus lives within me showing all good things . But all is not perfect for I am the flesh and are weak I take it to prayer allways then Jesus Christ will direct me in His way and the only way. I live for Jesus Christ , for he shed His blood for me . I give the good word of Jesus to all in need. We are all in need of the word. |

REALITY CHECK:
It is written in Isa 64:6 and James 4:10: "But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away [from God's Will and Presence]."
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord [we are always in His site], and He will lift you up."

| Patrick: Good Scriptures!!! Our repentance and relationship with Jesus is key. However, sanctification, putting off the old man and putting on the new, is also vital to our faith. |

| Thanks alot! This is right on time and I'm going to borrow this to post on our site. |

You are absolutely correct Steve; putting off your old man is one of the elementary principles of Christianity; and it was the "old man"that boasted of himself - whether it was self-righteously or other types of prideful boasting. According to the Holy Bible all such boasting is evil (Psalms 94:4 and James 4:6).
"Christ-likeness" can never be effectively accomplished without first having humility before God and man; and then, if we are to boast, boast in our infirmity (2 Corinthians 11:30 and 12:9).
2 Timothy 4:2
