Meditate: Acts 2:42 - 43
It’s definitely a healthy thing for the Church to be filled with awe.
Awe is defined as “a mixed emotion of reverence, respect, dread, and wonder inspired by authority, the sacred, or the sublime.”
Awe definitely applies - we serve the Most High, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Holy One.
The Bible asks about God, “Where can I go from Your presence?“ He is all powerful and all knowing. And the day is coming when He will judge everyone who’s ever lived according to what they’ve done as recorded in His books.
We claim to obey His Word, claim to carry out His will, and carry His Name. When I consider who God is, that’s a lot to answer for.
The Church has plenty of reason to be filled with awe.
- How do I feel in approaching God?
- Do the ways I approach Him match who He is?
- Am I living as someone who will have to give account for my actions?
- Am I filled with awe?
Pray:
Praise: You are Sovereign over All. You are righteous when You judge.
Confess: I have taken You too lightly and failed to “awe” in Your presence. I have been casual with holy things and failed to honor You as You deserve.
Thank: It is only by Your mercy that I come to You. You do not treat me as my sins deserve but fill my life with Your grace and mercy.
Ask: Fill me with awe for You.
