STILL SMALL VOICE
Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. ~1 Kings 19:11-12
Sometimes during the course of our Christian walk we may become discouraged. We may feel as though our ministries have hit a brick wall, no one appreciates what we do, we are not bearing fruit, we have no help or perhaps we think that God is turning us in a new direction; we go through stormy times. We may become so wrapped up in our ministry, very busy serving Him and trying to make every aspect of it perfect that sometimes we forget the reason we are serving in ministry. Why would we forget? Because it is very easy to become busy working for God instead of spending time with Him, listening to Him and seeking His direction.
He desires our time and our hearts. He wants us to come before Him and listen to Him when He speaks to us and over us. He wants us to completely and totally lean on Him. He will do what is necessary to get our attention. If that means passing by with a great and strong wind that will tear down the mountains we’ve built up for ourselves, or an earthquake or even a fire, then He will do it. He will do what is necessary to grab your attention and get you to turn and focus on Him. And then He will speak.
Examine yourself today. Have you been so busy working for God that you haven’t taken the time to sit in His presence? Are you circling around in a cul de sac with your ministry? Have you inadvertently silenced that still small voice? Has He passed by you with wind, earthquake or fire? Go, sit before the Lord. Seek His face, quiet your mind and your heart. What you think He wants you to do may not be what He wants…maybe He wants you to move on, maybe He is asking You to go back to your beginning, maybe He is asking you to take a step of faith, or maybe He is desiring more of your time and more of your heart.
Let's pray: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for this blessed day. With You in our lives, we know that each day You grant us is another gift and we strive to please You this day. We thank You for Your still small voice, we ask for Your forgiveness because we have tuned it out. We pray that You grant us open hearts and open ears so that we may recognize Your voice and follow Your guidance. We are sheep in Your fold, Lord, and when we wander to close to the edge of Your pen we thank You for pulling us back to You. We seek to please You, but sometimes our eyes become so focused on what we are doing for You, Lord, that we may miss what You are saying to us. Thank You for bringing our focus back to You. You are our shepherd, You are our guiding light, You are our fortress and rock. We give You all honor and glory. We bless You and praise Your holy name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
